КОГДА У СВИНЬИ ОТРАСТАЮТ КРЫЛЬЯ

− почему я живу как свинья, а не как птица? −
спросила свинья себя
и сразу почувствовала, как у нее отрастают крылья

ее лицо сплющилось, нос вытянулся, превратился в клюв
и правый глаз стал видеть только то, что справа
а левый − только то, что слева
и как она ни поворачивала голову
никак не могла увидеть один и тот же предмет двумя глазами

тогда ее правый глаз стал оплакивать левый
а левый глаз − оплакивать правый
она еще не знала
что два взгляда на вещи −
неотъемлемое качество пернатых!

WHEN A PIG GROWS WINGS

− why do I live like a pig, and not like a bird?
The pig asked herself
and immediately it felt its wings grow

its face flattened, its nose grew long and turned into a beak
and its right eye began to see only what was on the right
and its left eye − only what was on the left
and no matter how it turned it head
it couldn't see the same thing with two eyes

then its right eye began to mourn the left eye
and the left eye − to mourn the right eye
it didn't know yet
that two-way seeing
was an inherent quality of birds!

СПЕЦИАЛИСТ

только на этой ферме живет ветеринар
специалист по пятым ногам коров
если что-то случается с пятой ногой коровы
то лучше обращаться сразу к нему
никто больше не сможет помочь
и не имеет значения
нужна ли корове эта нога или нет

а все потому
что раньше он был исследователем несуществующего
все изучали существующее
а он вставал на рассвете
умывался
и сразу после завтрака приступал к изучению того
чего нет

он достиг немалых успехов в этом
благодаря его трудам человечество узнало
сколько всего на свете нет

а ведь все это могло бы быть!

A SPECIALIST

lives only on this farm
if something happens to the fifth leg of a cow,

ваши дни не прокваканы − сказала лягушка –
поэтому у вас не получается земноводно жить и расти
проквакайте ваши дни или попросите кого-то
я знаю одну, она сможет вам помочь
а сама я не могу – мне предстоит быть съеденной цаплей!
так было проквакано мне во сне…

DAYS

СОН ТРЕХГЛАЗКИ

1.
засыпая
трехглазка иногда забывает закрыть третий глаз
и тогда утром она думает:
− а что если я сама себя сглазила?
− а что если не сама?
− а что если не себя?

2.
в фазе быстрого сна
трехглазкам снится сначала увиденное двумя глазами
лишь потом присоединяется то
что увидел третий глаз
и тогда они видят двойку в дневнике сына
забытую внутри духовки тряпку
и не выключенный в 1968 году утюг

THREE-EYE SLEEP

1.
falling asleep
sometimes the three-eyed one forgets to close her third eye
and then in the morning she thinks:
− What if I jinxed myself?
− what if not my?
− what if not self?

2.
in REM sleep
three-eyed ones dream at first of what they have seen with their two eyes,
later they dream of
what their third eye has seen,
and then they see an F in the son's report card
and a rag they forgot to remove from the oven
and an iron not turned off since 1968

ПРО БАНИНА

1.
Банин долго пытался идти в ногу со временем
пока не обнаружил
что ног у времени нет
а есть нечто среднее
между подошвой улитки
и ртом гигантской морской звезды
поглощающей всех

2.
подростком
узнав что будут бить
Банин обычно убегал –
не потому что боялся –
а потому что стеснялся своего лица
не похожего на морду

Banin tried to keep up with the times until he discovered

but it had something in between
the sole of a cochlea
and the mouth of a giant starfish that swallowed everyone

2.
as a teen
after learning that he would get a beating
Banin usually ran away –
not because he was afraid –
but because he was ashamed of his face
not being like a mug
